Haiti International Pageant:

Lorraine Charles was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. She is the eldest of four children. She received her Bachelor of the Arts in History from Adelphi University with her thesis centering on the American Occupation in Haiti during the 1920’s and its influence on the women of Haiti. After the passing of her beloved grandfather Antoine in 2004 and a life-changing mission trip to Haiti in 2008 where she met her future husband Mario, Lorraine became passionate about helping others and saving lives through medicine. She went on to obtain her medical license in 2014 at Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee.

On April 5th 2014, Lorraine won the Mrs. Haiti International Pageant in Chicago and was awarded Best Evening Dress in the competition. As a novice pageant competitor, she was impressed and inspired by all the wonderful women doing great things for Haiti and their local community. She plans to use her platform to bring awareness to the poor health conditions in Haiti as well as working with organizations like Konbit Sante and their Make Births Safe campaign, to get birthing kits in the hand of expectant mothers in Northern Haiti. She plans to advocate for women health services including pre-natal, post-natal, and family planning services. Her goal is to make labor and delivery procedures safer for expectant mothers, lower infant mortality rates, and to also make services like these as well as access to better health care available for all women in Haiti.

She also dreams of one day returning to Haiti to establish a Haitian-run clinic that empowers the people to care for themselves.

In addition to her passion for medicine, Lorraine enjoys spending time with her family, her friends, and her husband Mario, traveling to different cities around the world, exercising, and eating healthy. She is a woman of Christian faith and is regularly active in her church community. She believes every person has a platform in their local community and can make a difference.
