29-Year-Old Anderson Sainci Elected to Dubuque School Board

Congratulations to Haitian-American rising star Anderson Sainci, 29, who recently won a seat on the Dubuque Community School Board.

Sainci is the resource management coordinator for the City of Dubuque and also is active on several community boards. Minutes after the results were announced, he was already was looking ahead saying his next goal is to “listen, learn and find ways to continue to keep students first.”

Sainci, husband and father credited his win to community support.

 A little background courtesy of Telegraph Herald on the young rising star: 

He grew up in Naples, Fla., the child of a single mother without much education. He credits people who “saw something” in him for giving him the drive to attend college.

He earned a BA in business administration and an MA in communication from the University of Dubuque.

Sainci competed on the Spartan wrestling team and also served as an assistant coach. He returns to his alma mater to share his story with incoming students.

He serves on the board of directors for Every Child/Every Promise, Dubuque Black Men Coalition, Dubuque Dream Center, St. Mark Youth Enrichment, Radius Church and Steeple Square, as well as the Iowa Recycling Association.

He facilitated a Back to School Bash, held in Comiskey Park,  the event, now in its third year, helps children and families prepare for school.

He has volunteered with many programs designed to help under-privileged or minority youth and their families, including Circles Initiative, My Brother’s Keeper and the Road to Success for Teens.

In 2016, he was appointed by the governor of Iowa to a three-year term as commissioner on the Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service. This year, he was named a Millennial Impact Fellow by New Profit, a national nonprofit venture philanthropy fund, for his commitment to social justice.

In this interview with  Telegrah Herald , Sainci said “What I have learn from the challenges that I have faced is one, people may be smarter than you, but don’t let them outwork you, and two, no matter what, don’t give up.”

“I am passionate about making the world a better place. Everything that I do is for the glory of God, and I want to help make the community a better place, or a more equitable place, for all individuals. I appreciate knowing that the things I am doing in the community are a part of that process.”
