Haitian-American Harry E. Dumay is Elms College 11th President

Congratulations to Haitian-American Harry E. Dumay who was sworn in as the 11th president of the College of Our Lady of the Elms at a formal inauguration ceremony Friday October 6th.

Dumay, who has previously served in senior and executive capacities in higher education finance and administration for 19 years, was selected to head the school in July of 2017 after a nationwide search.

A native of Ouanaminthe, Haiti, Dumay has served in higher education finance and administration at senior and executive levels for 19 years. He was selected to head the school in July of 2017 after a nationwide search.  Before Dumay joined Elms, he served for five years as senior vice president for finance and chief financial officer for Saint Anselm College in Manchester, N.H., a Catholic, Benedictine, liberal arts college.

Dumay holds a Ph.D. in higher education administration from Boston College, an MBA from Boston University, and a master of arts degree in public administration from Framingham State University. He earned his bachelor of science degree, magna cum laude, from Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Mo., in 1991.

Friday’s events included a special Mass at the school, a campus-wide picnic, a dedication ceremony for a new chapel in one of the school’s halls, a post-inauguration reception and the annual President’s Evening of Appreciation dinner.

Delegates from 45 sister colleges and associations across New England and around the country attended the ceremony including some of Dumay’s former colleagues from Harvard University, Boston University, Boston College, and Saint Anselm College.

According to Mass Live, Dumay’s inaugural address focused on the large contributions of Catholic colleges.

“On behalf of the students of Elms College, it is an honor and privilege to welcome Dr. Harry Dumay into our college community,” said John Dunphy ’19. “Dr. Dumay, as we begin this journey together, we look forward to learning from the experiences and wisdom that you bring to our beloved college. Likewise, we are excited to share with you what we treasure most about our community.”
