Haiti Help For Haiti

Renowned Chef José Andrés Use Food as Agent Of Change In Haiti

José Andrés
Renown chef José Andrés gives back to Haiti after he fell in love with the food. He travels to Haiti with his organization “World Central Kitchen” and teach locals how to cook different styles, helped assisted in starting a bread factory where Haitians can sell the bread for money and helped locals start a community restaurant.

World-renowned chef José Andrés brings his passion for the “power of food” to World Central Kitchen: an international organization that focuses on Smart Solutions to Hunger and Poverty. World Central Kitchen uses the expertise of its Chef Network to empower people to be part of the solution, with a focus on health, education, and jobs.

Health: Cleaner cooking with clean cook stoves and food safety/sanitation training.
Education: School kitchens to support feeding programs that encourage school attendance and provide a source of sustainable revenue for the school.
Jobs: Culinary training to elevate the hospitality workforce, increase earnings, enhance quality of life, and strengthen Haiti’s economy.

When an earthquake hit Haiti in January 2010, I decided to fly down to cook for people who were desperate for nourishment. It was my time to act, but I wanted to offer a sustainable solution. I created World Central Kitchen to find sustainable solutions to ending food insecurity and malnutrition. There are many people to feed and many plates to fill in a world where food should be accessible to everyone. World Central Kitchen is a catalyst of change through chef-driven programs that focus on improving health, education, and employment. Using our chef expertise, we will continue to invest in safe cooking methods, healthy school meals, and culinary training empowering communities and strengthening economies around the world, said Andrés.

Since starting, World Central Kitchen work has affected lives in Brazil, Cambodia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Nicaragua, Zambia, and the United States.
