Our L’Union Suite team had the opportunity to celebrate the exciting grand opening of Kalalou Caribbean Bar and Grill in Orlando. Located at 5160 S John Young Pkwy, Kalalou Caribbean mixes the ambiance of your favorite neighborhood sports bar with the familiarity and community feel of your favorite family restaurant. The grand opening felt like a fun family BBQ with live music playing in the background, kids running and playing, and friends and family laughing together.

Kalalou, a comfy neighborhood cafe featuring outdoor patio seating and an entertaining multi-television bar section is the latest addition to Caribbean restaurants in Orlando, Florida. Kalalou’s owners, Mr. Verty and Mr. Metellus from the beautiful island of Haiti are keen on combining their flavorful cuisine with that of several other islands within the Caribbean diaspora.

The menu boasts a classic arraignment of flavors with a modern twist. A gorgeous golden Fritay featuring akra, marinade, banan peze, and fries greets us at the door. Scents swirl in the air as snapper and pikliz make their way from table to table. The classic Haitian dinner is served: chicken doused in stew sauce topped with peppers, onions, and of course, served with a side of, banan peze, diri blanc, and soz pwa.

Appetizers and small plates such as akra fritters and the crispy kalalou bites (plantain, a slide of avocado & choice of meat served with pikliz) make for the perfect barside snack. The fully stocked bar offers a myriad of refreshing Carribean-themed cocktails such as the sun-kissed mojito (white rum, club soda, peppermint leaves and one sprig for garnish) and the bad & boozy (Captain Morgan’s spiced rum, melon liqueur, pineapple juice & grenadine). Vegans and vegetarians, jump for joy as Kalalou’s chefs whip up various animal-friendly options such as avocado bites and curry potato stew. Everyone is included on this menu!

The feeling of home cannot be missed: the classic meals combined with classic art and music make the entire place feel like a Sunday dinner at home with tanti and all your favorite cousins.

“Kalalou will capture Caribbean islands all under one roof. It has always been a passion to touch the heart through flavorsome cuisine.”
