New York, NY – August 6, 2018 – Boudoir House, a New York-based boutique offering clients specialized beauty and style management services, officially comes home with the Pop-Up of their boutique in Okap, Haiti on Tuesday, August 14. Maritza Boudoir, the owner of Boudoir House and co-founder of MAPLAOKAP, has partnered with Wanda Tima, the founder of L’union Suite, to also launch Thriving OKAP, an initiative that brings together entrepreneurs across the Haitian Diaspora to explore how to revive Cap-Haïtien’s local economy.

There are many challenges that the city of Okap faces: limited access to education, healthcare and underdeveloped infrastructures that hinder socio-economic growth. Yet through these challenges, Thriving OKAP envisions opportunities for growth and development. “Okap is ripe for business”, explains Maritza Boudoir. “By fostering relationships with the diaspora and the region’s entrepreneurs, we will change the narrative about Okap, develop strategies to strengthen the economy, and revive the local tourism industry”. She continues, “This is an opportunity for Haitians to unite for a better and brighter Haiti”.

Events, beginning at 3:00 pm, consist of a pop-up store, lunch mixer, and three panels focusing on Thriving OKAP’s mission: Lakay Kap Travay, Re-Imagine Okap and #SheThrives. The panels, curated by Boudoir House, L’Union Suite and the Chambre de Commerce et D’Industrie Nord Haiti, highlight local entrepreneurship, activism, culture & tourism, how to utilize social media to grow your business and bridging the gap between the Diaspora and the local community. Panelists and subject experts leading these discussions will include Wanda Tima expert in Communication and Social Media, Carl K. Almonacy Chief of Cabinet expert in law, local governance, urban politics, Matti Domingue expert in Makeup- Artistry entrepreneurship, and Guy Wewe Journalist. The evening will conclude around 7:00 pm, with a networking event attended by community leaders, influencers, entrepreneurs and young professionals.

Boudoir House’s Pop-Up Shop is the first of many events working to establish a community of Haitian influencers, empowered to advance Haiti’s potential and align their businesses with the needs of their consumers. We invite you to participate in this transformative exchange between locals and leaders from the diaspora to ultimately build a Thriving OKAP!
