This past weekend was a Wyclef Jean Carnival III takeover.

On Friday, October 6th, two days before he was scheduled to perform at Miami-Broward Carnival, Haitian rap artist and former Fugees member, Wyclef Jean hosted a pop-up block party curated by Lex-Promotions marketing group. The block party which included a rap-creole cypher celebrated his love for the Haitian culture and his Carnival III album. The event was held at popular Little Haiti Haitian restaurant, Chef Creole.

“Carnival III is more than just an album. It’s a celebration of what I love about music: discovery, diversity, and artistry for art’s sake. It’s about putting music together that will outlive me and live on for generations to come that is full of emotion, vibration, and fun. Get ready”, the singer said about his first full-length solo album.

On September 15th, Wyclef Jean released the third installment of his Carnival series, Carnival III: The Fall and Rise of a Refugee. The latest project, arriving through Legacy Records, completes his trilogy from the past two decades. The new album from the Haitian musician contains a total of 12 tracks, with features from the likes of Emeli Sandé, Lunch Money Lewis, D.L. Hughley, Riley and many more. The album also follows in the footsteps of his Jouvert EP from earlier this year.

Carnival III marks the 20 year anniversary of his groundbreaking album “The Carnival,” so it made sense Wyclef would celebrate the release of his album in Little Haiti, and join the parade at one of the largest Caribbean gatherings in the country.

Thousands of people from all over the world came to Miami-Dade Fairgrounds on Oct. 8 to celebrate the Miami Carnival. Although the line-up for the Caribbean celebration in Miami is generally a who’s who of soca stars, Wyclef cameo was a welcomed surprised.

“In addition, this year’s Miami Carnival will take place in a context of sadness and sorrow but will remain a celebration of and a tribute to all our sisters and brothers in the Caribbean who have suffered tremendously in the wake of Hurricanes Irma, Jose, and Maria,” states Joan Justin, Chair of the Miami Broward Carnival One Host Committee.

The carnival donated $5,000 to the Miami Foundation’s U.S. Caribbean Strong Relief Fund.
