19-Year-Old Graduate and Content Creator Zamy Wanderson Fatally Shot Outside Haitian Ministry

Port-au-Prince, Haiti – August 18, 2025 – In a tragic incident that has shaken the nation and sparked widespread calls for justice, 19-year-old Zamy Wanderson was fatally shot on Monday in front of the Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training (MENFP) in Delmas 83.

According to eyewitnesses, Wanderson had recently graduated from Collège Canado-Haïtien as part of the 2024–2025 class and was riding on the back of a motorcycle when he was struck by a bullet. The shot was allegedly fired by a ministry security guard attempting to disperse a group of protesting teachers demanding their appointment letters.

Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with security forces reportedly opening fire at chest level to break up the demonstration. The bullet fatally struck Wanderson and also damaged the motorcycle. The driver managed to escape with minor injuries. Wanderson was transported to a nearby hospital in the back of a pickup truck but was pronounced dead upon arrival.

Friends, family, and classmates describe Zamy, known on TikTok as @ya.boy.wander, as a vibrant young man full of potential. Beyond his academic achievements, Wanderson had built a loyal online following for his humorous and relatable videos, often highlighting Haitian culture, everyday struggles, and lighthearted moments that resonated with thousands.

“He was just beginning his journey, and he had so much ahead of him,” one friend shared on social media. “This is a devastating loss not just for his family, but for an entire generation who found joy in his content.”

Since news of his death broke, tributes have poured in across social media. Hashtags such as #JusticeForZamy have gained momentum as classmates, fans, and members of the broader Haitian community mourn the loss of a promising young talent.

The incident has reignited urgent conversations about violence and accountability in Haiti, particularly surrounding the state’s handling of protests and security measures. As of August 19, the Ministry of National Education has not issued an official statement regarding the shooting, fueling frustration and increasing public pressure for a transparent investigation into the actions of the security guard involved.

For many, the killing of Wanderson underscores the growing dangers young people face in Haiti, where instability, violence, and systemic failures continue to claim lives.

Though his life was cut tragically short, Wanderson’s digital footprint remains as a testament to his creativity, humor, and cultural pride. His videos continue to circulate widely as fans share memories and honor his impact.

Rest in peace, Zamy. A son, a classmate, a creator – a young life filled with promise, gone too soon.
