Heartbreak in North Miami Beach: Haitian Food Truck Owner’s Livelihood Stolen Overnight

North Miami Beach, FL – November 25, 2025 – For Jinette Mere, the colorful Niche Dwet Cuisine food truck wasn’t just a business; it was her lifeline.

On the morning of November 5, the Haitian immigrant and single mother received a phone call that shattered her world: her food truck – the only source of income she had worked so hard to build – had vanished overnight from its regular parking spot at the 163rd Street Mall.

“I don’t have anything, only the food truck I have, I don’t have anything,” a tearful Mere told NBC6 South Florida. “I bought the food truck to make a business to take care of my bills… to take care of my family.”

Like so many during the pandemic, Mere lost her job when COVID-19 hit. Two years ago, she poured every penny she had into purchasing and outfitting the truck, transforming it into a beloved spot for authentic Haitian flavors – griot, diri ak djon djon, legume, and more – serving the vibrant South Florida community with pride and a smile.

Every single day for the past two years, she parked in the same busy lot without incident. Until that Tuesday morning when her daughter called in panic: the truck was gone.

Nearly three weeks have passed, and Jinette Mere’s food truck remains missing. Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office has launched an active investigation and released a public flyer with photos of the distinctive truck, but detectives say there are currently no solid leads.

Detectives believe the theft occurred sometime between late Monday night and early Tuesday morning. Surveillance footage in the area is limited, and no suspects have been identified.

Authorities are urging anyone with information – no matter how small – to come forward.

  • Contact lead detective Sergeant Raquel Mascarena directly at U307865@mdso.com
  • To remain anonymous, call Miami-Dade & Florida Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS (8477) or 1-866-471-8477
  • You can also text “CS305” + your tip to 738477

A reward may be available for information that leads to the recovery of the truck or the arrest of those responsible.

For Jinette Mere, getting her truck back isn’t just about business; it’s about survival. Every day it stays missing is another day without income, another bill that goes unpaid, another dream put on hold.

If you’ve seen Niche Dwet Cuisine rolling around South Florida, or if you have any information at all, please do the right thing and speak up. One call could bring a hardworking mother back on her feet.

We’ll continue to follow this story and provide updates as soon as the truck is located.
