4.1 Magnitude Earthquake Shakes Parts of Haiti Late Monday Night

Port-au-Prince, Haiti – A 4.1 magnitude earthquake struck parts of Haiti late Monday night, August 4, 2025, at approximately 11:02 p.m. local time, sending brief tremors through the Ouest Department and surrounding areas.

According to preliminary seismic data, the quake’s epicenter was located roughly 15 kilometers east of Port-au-Prince. The earthquake was classified as relatively shallow—a characteristic that often results in more noticeable surface shaking.

Fortunately, no injuries or structural damage have been reported at this time, and the tremor did not cause any significant disruptions to power, transportation, or communications. However, residents in nearby communities did report feeling the quake.

The event is the latest reminder of Haiti’s geological vulnerability. The nation sits along the active Enriquillo-Plantain Garden fault zone, which has produced several devastating earthquakes in the past, including the catastrophic 7.0 magnitude quake in 2010.

Seismologists emphasize the importance of ongoing preparedness. While Monday’s quake was moderate in magnitude, experts warn that such seismic activity should prompt residents and authorities to remain vigilant.

Authorities continue to monitor for potential aftershocks, though none have been reported as of Tuesday morning. In the meantime, officials are encouraging the public to stay informed, remain calm, and review emergency protocols related to earthquake safety.
