Haiti’s Melchie “Corventina” Dumornay Named Finalist for 2024/25 Concacaf Women’s Player of the Year

In yet another milestone for Caribbean football, Haiti’s Melchie “Corventina” Dumornay has been named one of six finalists for the 2024/25 Concacaf Women’s Player of the Year award.

The 21-year-old midfield star, who won the honor in the 2023/24 season, now has the chance to make history as the first woman to secure back-to-back titles.

Dumornay’s nomination comes after a dazzling campaign with Olympique Lyonnais and the Haitian national team. Her blend of vision, technical precision, and goal-scoring ability solidified her reputation as one of the most complete midfielders in the game today.

At club level, she was instrumental in Lyon’s Ligue 1 Féminine championship run, finishing as the league’s second-leading scorer with 15 goals while providing crucial assists. In the UEFA Women’s Champions League, she netted six times, earned back-to-back Young Player of the Season awards, and secured a place on the Best XI.

The Nominee Field

Dumornay joins an elite lineup of regional stars:

  • Emily Fox (USA)

  • Lindsey Heaps (USA)

  • Khadija “Bunny” Shaw (Jamaica)

  • Charlyn Corral (Mexico)

  • Jacqueline Ovalle (Mexico)

Nominees were selected based on performance metrics and evaluations from experts across the sport.

Dumornay’s impact extends beyond Concacaf. This year, she was also among the select few women nominated for the Ballon d’Or, standing alongside Concacaf peers Heaps and Shaw. Her inclusion signals not just recognition but also a shift in global perception of Caribbean soccer talent.

Fan Voting Now Open

Supporters will play a direct role in crowning this year’s winner. Fan voting is open until September 30, 2025.

A second consecutive victory would elevate Dumornay into Concacaf legend, joining the rare company of back-to-back winners in the region’s history. More importantly, her rise continues to inspire a new generation of Caribbean athletes, proving that the global stage is not only reachable—it’s conquerable.
