A recent surge in deportations from the #Dominican

A recent surge in deportations from the #DominicanRepublic to #Haiti has raised concerns about human rights abuses, according to reports from the Associated Press. On a typical morning, hundreds of deportees, including families and unaccompanied minors, arrive at the #Haitian border city of #Belladère, seeking food, water, and medical care.
Migrants have recounted experiences of unauthorized home raids, racial profiling, and separation from their families. Odelyn St. Fleur, a Haitian migrant who had lived in the Dominican Republic for 20 years, shared his story of being awoken at 4 am by authorities who broke down his door.
The Dominican Republic's harsh new deportation policy, implemented in October, aims to deport at least 10,000 immigrants weekly. This policy has been widely criticized by civil organizations, with many arguing that it leads to human rights violations.
Data from @APNews shows that over 250,000 people were deported last year, with more than 31,200 deported in January alone. Activists like Roudy Joseph argue that the situation has reached a critical point, with children being left abandoned at schools due to the deportations.
Dominican officials, however, claim that Haitian immigrants have put a strain on the country's public services, citing the enrollment of over 80,000 new Haitian students in public schools in the past four years. Vice Admiral Luis Rafael Lee Ballester, #Dominican migration director, stated that the country is willing to provide support but emphasized the need for Haiti's leaders to address the situation in their country.
Despite denying abuse allegations, Ballester acknowledged that officials might enter homes during "hot pursuit" and announced plans to retrain personnel to respect human rights. However, reports of deportations of unaccompanied minors continue to emerge.
As the situation unfolds, President Abinader has warned of an "uncontrollable wave of migration" and called for increased support for a U.N.-backed mission in Haiti to combat gang violence. The Associated Press reports that the international community is being urged to take action to address the crisis in Haiti.

According to PBS, #Springfield, Ohio, has filed a lawsuit against the neo-Nazi group #BloodTribe, accusing them of inciting harassment, threats, and intimidation against those supporting the city’s growing #Haitian community. The lawsuit, filed in U.S. District Court in Dayton by Mayor Rob Rue and other plaintiffs, names Blood Tribe leaders along with seven unidentified members. With legal assistance from the Anti-Defamation League, the city is seeking a jury trial to stop further threats and impose financial penalties.
Springfield, a city of about 60,000 located west of Columbus, has seen its Haitian population grow to 10,000 as immigrants seek stability and work. In July, Blood Tribe began framing the Haitian migration as an "invasion" threatening Springfield’s “good White residents," the lawsuit alleges.
According to the complaint, Blood Tribe members launched a months-long campaign of harassment, including bomb threats, death threats, and intimidation against residents who supported the Haitian community. The group escalated its activities in August by showing up at the city’s jazz and blues festival, displaying swastika flags, carrying weapons, and chanting Nazi slogans at City Hall after Berentz delivered a racist and antisemitic speech.
The lawsuit also details additional harassment tactics, such as sending threatening voicemails, publishing hateful social media posts, and even using dating apps to lure men to supporters' homes late at night. While the suit does not directly reference former President Donald Trump, it notes that Pohlhaus took credit for amplifying Trump’s false claims during a September debate that Haitian immigrants in Springfield were abducting and eating pets.
In response to the rising threats, the Haitian Bridge Alliance attempted to file criminal charges against Trump and his running mate, JD Vance, arguing their rhetoric fueled the chaos. However, a panel of local judges declined to issue arrest warrants and instead referred the matter to the county prosecutor. The alliance has since appealed the decision to the Ohio Supreme Court, arguing that the judges acted beyond their authority.
