Former Spirit Airlines Employees File Class-Action Former Spirit Airlines Employees File Class-Action Lawsuit After Abrupt Shutdown. The fallout from Spirit Airlines’ sudden closure continues as former employees take legal action against the company.

A group of former workers has filed a proposed class-action lawsuit claiming Spirit failed to pay owed wages, unused vacation time, sick pay, and benefits following the airline’s abrupt shutdown on May 2, 2026. The lawsuit also accuses the airline of violating federal labor laws by not providing the required 60-day advance notice before laying off nearly 17,000 employees.

What was meant to be a routine workday turned into sudden unemployment for thousands of flight crews, airport staff, mechanics, customer service agents, and corporate employees. Many say they received little to no warning despite years of loyal service.

Once a major player in low-cost travel, Spirit Airlines officially ceased operations after years of financial struggles. Former employees are now seeking accountability and financial relief as the lawsuit moves forward.

Born in New York and raised in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, @cedricdumornay drew inspiration from legends like Sidney Poitier and classic films. Fluent in English, French, and Haitian Creole, Cedric represents a new generation of global Haitian talent bringing authentic stories to the international stage. His journey is a powerful testament to resilience, determination, and cultural pride.

In a landmark cultural moment, the national flag o In a landmark cultural moment, the national flag of Haiti is flying proudly over the iconic Queen Emma Bridge (also known as the Swinging Old Lady or Brùg di Ponton) for the very first time in the bridge’s history.

The initiative was led by the Consulate General of Haiti in Curaçao, under Consul Carl Edouard Saint Remy, in close partnership with local Curaçao authorities. The blue-and-red bicolor was raised on Saturday, May 17, and is expected to remain on display for several days as part of the official celebrations for Haitian Flag Day on May 18.

The display has brought visible joy to the Haitian diaspora community in Curaçao, many of whom crossed the famous pedestrian bridge to witness the moment firsthand. Social media posts from the community describe it as a powerful affirmation of visibility, pride, and belonging.

The Queen Emma Bridge is a historic pontoon bridge built in 1888 that connects the Punda and Otrobanda districts of Willemstad, Curaçao’s UNESCO World Heritage capital. Nicknamed the “Swinging Old Lady,” it floats on 16 pontoons and regularly swings open (up to 30 times a day) to allow ships to pass through St. Anna Bay, one of the Caribbean’s busiest harbors. It is frequently illuminated for special occasions, national holidays, and acts of solidarity.

While the bridge has previously been lit in the colors of other nations (for example, in Jamaican black, green, and gold in late 2025 as a gesture of solidarity after a hurricane), this is widely reported as the first time a physical national flag of another country has been raised and displayed on the structure itself.

The display is expected to continue through at least May 19–20, 2026, with evening illuminations in Haiti’s national colors.
