Haitian soccer sensation Melchie Daelle Dumornay, affectionately known as “Corventina,” made history on Monday night as she was crowned the Best Player of the 2025-2026 season in France’s top women’s football league.
The 22-year-old Olympique Lyonnais Féminin (OL Lyonnes) midfielder received the prestigious 2025-2026 UNFP Trophy at the 34th Trophées UNFP ceremony held at the Palais Brongniart in Paris.
Voted on by her fellow professional players across the league, this award marks a groundbreaking milestone: Dumornay becomes the first Haitian athlete — male or female — to win a major individual honor in one of Europe’s top professional football leagues.
A Standout Season
During the 2025-2026 Arkema Première Ligue campaign, Dumornay delivered consistent excellence, recording 4 goals and 7 assists in approximately 15 appearances (10 starts). Her vision, technical brilliance, and ability to control the midfield played a key role in Lyon’s domestic success, including winning the Coupe de la Ligue title. She was also named to the league’s Team of the Year.
Her performances extended into the UEFA Women’s Champions League, further solidifying her reputation as one of the brightest young talents in world football.
Historic Achievement for Haiti
This UNFP victory adds to Dumornay’s growing list of trailblazing accomplishments, which include:
- Leading Haiti to their first-ever FIFA Women’s World Cup in 2023
- Back-to-back CONCACAF Women’s Player of the Year awards
- Multiple UEFA Women’s Champions League Young Player honors
- Becoming the first Haitian to reach the top 5 in major global player awards
During her emotional acceptance speech, a visibly moved Dumornay first thanked her Lyon teammates and staff before switching to Kreyòl to express gratitude to her Haitian supporters and the entire nation.
This achievement represents far more than a personal triumph, it stands as a powerful symbol of hope, resilience, and excellence for Haitian football and the broader Caribbean region.
