Tamarac Honors Haitian Icons Wyclef Jean and Melky Jean with Key to the City

In a historic celebration of Haitian excellence, the City of Tamarac presented world-renowned Haitian-American siblings Wyclef Jean and Melky Jean with the Key to the City during a special reception held this morning at Tamarac City Hall.

The event, hosted by Vice Mayor Marlon D. Bolton, honored the brother-and-sister duo for their immense contributions to music, philanthropy, entrepreneurship, and global culture. Broward County officials also presented Wyclef and Melky Jean with the Key to Broward County as part of Haitian American Heritage Month.

Wyclef Jean, a Grammy-winning artist, producer, and humanitarian, alongside his sister Melky Jean, have inspired millions through their music and dedication to uplifting the Haitian community worldwide. From chart-topping hits with The Fugees to solo success and extensive humanitarian work in Haiti and beyond, the Jean siblings have become powerful symbols of Haitian pride and achievement.

During the ceremony, Florida State Representative Lisa Dunkley officially declared May 1 as Wyclef and Melky Jean Day in the State of Florida. Broward County Commissioners Hazelle P. Rogers and Alexandra P. Davis also issued proclamations recognizing the siblings’ outstanding legacy.

The noon reception featured cultural tributes and performances, bringing together city, county, and state leaders in a heartfelt celebration of Haitian-American excellence.

This honor reflects Tamarac’s commitment to acknowledging the significant cultural, economic, and social contributions of the Haitian-American community in South Florida.
