The Trump administration has officially confirmed the deportation of prominent Haitian businessman and former presidential candidate Dr. Pierre Reginald Boulos from the United States.
In coordinated statements issued on April 11, 2026, the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs and the U.S. Embassy in Haiti declared:
“The Trump Administration will not allow anyone who supports the brutal gangs terrorizing Haitians to remain on American soil. This week, Reginald Boulos was expelled from the United States for destabilizing Haiti and others. The United States remains committed to holding accountable those who enable gang violence and undermine Haiti’s path to stability. We stand with the Haitian people in their fight for peace and security. The era of impunity is over!”
The statements were released in English, French, and Haitian Creole.
Boulos, a U.S.-born Haitian citizen who previously renounced his American citizenship to run for president in Haiti, later obtained lawful permanent resident (green card) status in the United States. He was arrested by ICE agents at his home in Palm Beach County, Florida, on July 17, 2025.
U.S. officials accused him of engaging in “a campaign of violence and gang support” linked to the Viv Ansanm gang alliance, which the Trump administration designated as a foreign terrorist organization in May 2025. Authorities also alleged immigration fraud, claiming Boulos failed to disclose certain investigations and political activities on his residency application.
Boulos spent nearly eight months in immigration detention at the Krome North Service Processing Center in Miami while challenging his removal. On April 2, 2026, a federal immigration judge issued a final deportation order.
Under a court-approved agreement with the Department of Homeland Security, Boulos was given the choice of being removed to either Mexico or Colombia. He selected Colombia and was transported from Krome to a South Florida airport for a commercial flight. He was released from ICE custody around April 7 and deported shortly thereafter, with family members confirming his departure.
Dr. Pierre Reginald Boulos is a well-known figure in Haitian business and politics. His deportation marks a high-profile enforcement action by the Trump administration against individuals it accuses of supporting gang violence in Haiti.
The case has drawn significant attention within the Haitian community in South Florida and across the diaspora.
This story is developing as more details may emerge regarding Boulos’ status in Colombia and any potential legal developments.
