President Donald J. Trump International Airport Officially Replaces Palm Beach International Airport

Palm Beach International Airport has officially been renamed President Donald J. Trump International Airport, with the change taking effect on July 9, 2026, following approval by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The renaming follows legislation signed by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis earlier this year, officially designating the airport in honor of President Donald Trump. The airport, located just a few miles from Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach, is the first major commercial airport in the United States to bear the name of a sitting president.

Palm Beach County is overseeing the transition in coordination with the FAA. The rebranding includes updates to airport signage, technology systems, printed materials, uniforms, and other branding elements. County officials estimate the project will cost approximately $5.5 million. The State of Florida has allocated $2.75 million toward the effort, while the remaining costs will be paid through the airport’s operating budget and capital improvement program. County officials have stated that local property tax dollars will not be used to fund the project.

Supporters of the name change have described it as a tribute to Trump’s longstanding ties to South Florida and his contributions to the region. President Trump also celebrated the announcement on Truth Social, calling the renaming “spectacular.”

The decision has also drawn criticism. Democratic lawmakers and some Palm Beach County residents argue the airport should have retained its longtime name and have questioned the process that led to the change. Others have raised concerns about naming a publicly owned airport after a sitting president and whether the move could provide indirect commercial benefits.

The airport will continue normal operations throughout the transition as signage and branding are updated in phases. While the airport’s official name has changed, Palm Beach County will continue to own and operate the facility.
