![The Trump administration has temporarily paused immigrant visa appointments at U.S. embassies and consulates worldwide as the State Department trains consular officers on new guidance for evaluating whether applicants could become dependent on U.S. public benefits.
The State Department said the global training program is designed to make sure consular officers can evaluate immigrant visa applicants more closely and consistently under the existing “public charge” rules. The training began earlier this month and has led to adjustments and postponements of immigrant visa appointments around the world.
Applicants who already had interviews scheduled may receive notices that their appointments have been postponed or rescheduled. The State Department has not announced when regular immigrant visa appointments will fully resume.
The change primarily affects people seeking immigrant visas to permanently move to the United States, including many family-sponsored and employment-based applicants. Tourist, student and other nonimmigrant visa categories are not automatically included in the pause.
The announcement comes just days after a federal judge struck down a separate Trump administration policy that had suspended immigrant visa processing for nationals of 75 countries, including Haiti. That ruling was separate from the new worldwide appointment pause.
For families waiting to reunite in the United States, the latest move could mean more delays and uncertainty as consular officers complete the new training.

![Haitian businessman Dimitri Vorbe has been released from U.S. immigration custody after nearly 11 months in detention, bringing a major development in his long-running immigration case.
Vorbe was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at his South Florida home on September 23, 2025, and had remained in detention while the U.S. government pursued removal proceedings against him.
His release comes after U.S. District Judge Darrin P. Gayles ruled that Vorbe could not remain in mandatory detention without an individualized bond hearing. The judge ordered immigration authorities to provide that hearing by August 24 or release Vorbe under reasonable conditions of supervision.
The case stems from a rarely used immigration provision involving alleged foreign-policy concerns. Secretary of State Marco Rubio previously determined that Vorbe’s presence in the United States could have potentially serious consequences for U.S. foreign policy. The government has alleged that Vorbe was involved in activities connected to violence and gang support in Haiti, allegations Vorbe has challenged.
But his release does not mean the case is over. Vorbe’s immigration proceedings remain active, and the U.S. government must provide the federal court with an update on the case by August 31.
After spending nearly a year behind bars, Vorbe is now out of immigration custody but his legal fight in the United States is far from finished.

Unless challenged or revised, the plan targets up to 200,000 B-1 and B-2 nonimmigrant visas issued between 2016 and 2026 to foreign nationals who have sought asylum or are currently seeking asylum in the United States.
B-1 visas cover temporary business travel; B-2 visas cover tourism, family visits, and medical treatment. Holders entered the country legally as short-term visitors. The administration argues many later filed asylum claims in an effort to remain permanently, describing the practice as an abuse of the visa system. State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott stated the agency is coordinating with the Department of Homeland Security “to identify and revoke the nonimmigrant visas of foreigners who have come to the United States claiming to be short-term visitors, but then file for asylum to stay here permanently.” He emphasized that “a visa is a privilege, not a right.”
Revocation would not automatically trigger immediate deportation. Officials indicated that many individuals with pending asylum cases would be recategorized and lose their nonimmigrant status as business or tourism travelers. The process is expected to unfold in waves or on a rolling basis in the coming weeks, rather than as a single simultaneous action. Legal challenges are widely anticipated.
The State Department has already revoked more than 175,000 visas since President Trump returned to office, many linked to criminal encounters or other violations.
For Haitian nationals and the broader diaspora, the announcement arrives amid already intense pressure after the Supreme Court cleared the way for the administration to terminate Temporary Protected Status for roughly 350,000 Haitians. While the visa-revocation effort is not limited to Haitians, any Haitian nationals who entered on B-1 or B-2 visas and later pursued asylum fall within its scope.

During a recent appearance on Big Boy’s platform, Rick Ross opened up about the reality of ICE activity in South Florida. While discussing the climate around immigration enforcement, Ross zeroed in on what he’s seeing at home.
“Being in Miami… so many Venezuelans, Latinos period, Haitians,” he said. “A close friend of mine got grabbed by ICE three weeks ago. I’m talking about my right hand.”

He and his team had already secured an attorney for his friend and were fighting to keep him from being sent there. “This sh*t is real,” Ross said. “It’s f**ked up.”
The Miami Icon has long positioned himself as someone who remains connected to the streets and people that raised him. The Trump administration has temporarily paused immigrant visa appointments at U.S. embassies and consulates worldwide as the State Department trains consular officers on new guidance for evaluating whether applicants could become dependent on U.S. public benefits.
The State Department said the global training program is designed to make sure consular officers can evaluate immigrant visa applicants more closely and consistently under the existing “public charge” rules. The training began earlier this month and has led to adjustments and postponements of immigrant visa appointments around the world.
Applicants who already had interviews scheduled may receive notices that their appointments have been postponed or rescheduled. The State Department has not announced when regular immigrant visa appointments will fully resume.
The change primarily affects people seeking immigrant visas to permanently move to the United States, including many family-sponsored and employment-based applicants. Tourist, student and other nonimmigrant visa categories are not automatically included in the pause.
The announcement comes just days after a federal judge struck down a separate Trump administration policy that had suspended immigrant visa processing for nationals of 75 countries, including Haiti. That ruling was separate from the new worldwide appointment pause.
For families waiting to reunite in the United States, the latest move could mean more delays and uncertainty as consular officers complete the new training.

Haitian businessman Dimitri Vorbe has been released from U.S. immigration custody after nearly 11 months in detention, bringing a major development in his long-running immigration case.
Vorbe was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at his South Florida home on September 23, 2025, and had remained in detention while the U.S. government pursued removal proceedings against him.
His release comes after U.S. District Judge Darrin P. Gayles ruled that Vorbe could not remain in mandatory detention without an individualized bond hearing. The judge ordered immigration authorities to provide that hearing by August 24 or release Vorbe under reasonable conditions of supervision.
The case stems from a rarely used immigration provision involving alleged foreign-policy concerns. Secretary of State Marco Rubio previously determined that Vorbe’s presence in the United States could have potentially serious consequences for U.S. foreign policy. The government has alleged that Vorbe was involved in activities connected to violence and gang support in Haiti, allegations Vorbe has challenged.
But his release does not mean the case is over. Vorbe’s immigration proceedings remain active, and the U.S. government must provide the federal court with an update on the case by August 31.
After spending nearly a year behind bars, Vorbe is now out of immigration custody but his legal fight in the United States is far from finished.

The Trump administration is preparing what would be the largest single mass revocation of visas in American history, according to State Department documents obtained by The Associated Press and confirmed by U.S. officials. Unless challenged or revised, the plan targets up to 200,000 B-1 and B-2 nonimmigrant visas issued between 2016 and 2026 to foreign nationals who have sought asylum or are currently seeking asylum in the United States.
B-1 visas cover temporary business travel; B-2 visas cover tourism, family visits, and medical treatment. Holders entered the country legally as short-term visitors. The administration argues many later filed asylum claims in an effort to remain permanently, describing the practice as an abuse of the visa system. State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott stated the agency is coordinating with the Department of Homeland Security “to identify and revoke the nonimmigrant visas of foreigners who have come to the United States claiming to be short-term visitors, but then file for asylum to stay here permanently.” He emphasized that “a visa is a privilege, not a right.”
Revocation would not automatically trigger immediate deportation. Officials indicated that many individuals with pending asylum cases would be recategorized and lose their nonimmigrant status as business or tourism travelers. The process is expected to unfold in waves or on a rolling basis in the coming weeks, rather than as a single simultaneous action. Legal challenges are widely anticipated.
The State Department has already revoked more than 175,000 visas since President Trump returned to office, many linked to criminal encounters or other violations.
For Haitian nationals and the broader diaspora, the announcement arrives amid already intense pressure after the Supreme Court cleared the way for the administration to terminate Temporary Protected Status for roughly 350,000 Haitians. While the visa-revocation effort is not limited to Haitians, any Haitian nationals who entered on B-1 or B-2 visas and later pursued asylum fall within its scope.

Haitian midfielder Woodensky Pierre is taking the next step in his career, with the 21-year-old set to join Forge FC in Hamilton, Ontario.
Pierre is leaving Violette AC after reportedly agreeing to a two-and-a-half-year contract with an option for an additional season, according to Dynamique Info Sport. The Canadian club is expected to officially present him on Wednesday, August 26.
The move would take @woodensky06 from Haiti’s domestic league to the Canadian Premier League, giving the young Grenadier a new opportunity to develop and compete at the professional level in Canada.
Pierre made headlines earlier this year when he was called up to Haiti’s senior national team for the first time ahead of the 2026 World Cup. He was the only player based in Haiti included in that 26-man squad, according to reports at the time.

Floridians, Florida Rep. Byron Donalds, your Republican nominee for governor, told CBS’s Face the Nation on Sunday that recent measles outbreaks are driven by “rampant illegal immigration” under the prior administration, not by low vaccination rates among American children.
Host Margaret Brennan noted that nearly all of Florida falls below the 95% immunization threshold needed for herd immunity against measles and asked whether Donalds’ message was for parents to vaccinate their kids.
“No,” Donalds replied. “Actually, my message to Floridians and, quite frankly to Americans is, the reason why we have seen a measles outbreak in certain parts of the country is because of rampant illegal immigration into the United States from the previous administration.”
Pressed for evidence, he pointed to outbreaks in El Paso, Texas, and southwest Florida, arguing that large numbers of people entered the country without vaccination schedules for measles, mumps, and rubella. He stressed the need to control immigration first, saying a country cannot absorb more than 10 million people “without that vaccination schedule.” When asked if he wanted immigrants vaccinated, Donalds clarified that he wants “legal immigration with assimilation.”
The exchange comes amid a significant national resurgence of measles. After years of relatively low case counts following elimination of endemic transmission in 2000, the U.S. recorded roughly 2,289 confirmed cases in 2025 and has already exceeded that total in 2026, with figures climbing past 2,500–2,700 by mid-to-late August reporting.
Florida has ranked among the higher-case states, with well over 140 cases reported in 2026. Public health data paint a different primary picture than the one Donalds described. The vast majority of cases, consistently around 93%, involve unvaccinated individuals or those with unknown vaccination status. Childhood immunization rates have declined in Florida and nationally. Florida kindergarten coverage has hovered near 88–89% in recent years, below both the national average and the 95% threshold experts say is needed to prevent sustained transmission of measles.

During a White House back-to-school event Monday, Trump said, “Every public school in America is now on notice” and argued that schools are committing child abuse if they tell a child they are “trapped in the wrong body.”

Target issued a full public apology after removing a children’s Halloween costume that sparked widespread criticism for resembling racist blackface and minstrel-era imagery.
In a statement shared across its social platforms, the retailer said:
“We removed an offensive Halloween costume that should never have been part of our assortment. It is no longer for sale. As a company, we got this wrong, and we are deeply sorry. We know this is especially hurtful for our Black guests, team members and partners. Removing the costume is an important first step, and we are looking closely at how this happened and what needs to change to ensure this won’t happen again.”
The costume, sold under Target’s Hyde & EEK! Boutique brand as the “Kids’ Glows Under Blacklight Circus Clown Halloween Costume,” featured an exaggerated wide smile on a dark mask, solid black gloves, and promotional images of a young Black child. Critics pointed out that the overall desig, particularly the oversized grin and the way it framed the child’s face, closely mirrored the exaggerated facial features used in 19th- and early 20th-century minstrel shows and blackface performances, which were created to mock and dehumanize Black people.
Those historical caricatures were a form of racist entertainment that helped reinforce harmful stereotypes for generations. Seeing a similar look marketed as a children’s Halloween costume, especially on a Black child model, struck many as deeply tone-deaf and painful.
Target confirmed the item has been fully pulled from sale. The company has not yet shared details on how the costume made it through its product review process, but stated it is examining what went wrong and what needs to change.
