The Embassy of Japan in Haiti has officially launched applications for the Japanese Government (MEXT) Research Scholarship Program for the 2027–2028 academic year, offering Haitian students a unique opportunity to pursue advanced studies and research at leading universities across Japan.
Funded by Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), the scholarship supports graduate-level education, including master’s degrees, doctoral studies, and specialized research programs. The initiative aims to strengthen academic and scientific cooperation between Haiti and Japan while helping develop future leaders and professionals capable of contributing to their communities and the global economy.
The program is open to Haitian nationals who hold at least a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification and wish to begin studies in Japan in 2027. For applicants who do not speak Japanese, many academic programs are offered in English. Selected candidates may also receive Japanese language training upon arrival to help facilitate their academic experience and cultural integration.
Eligibility Requirements
Applicants must:
- Hold Haitian nationality.
- Be under 35 years old.
- Possess a bachelor’s degree, master’s degree, or equivalent qualification recognized by the prospective Japanese university.
- Demonstrate proficiency in English.
Application Requirements
The Embassy notes that all application documents prepared in French, with the exception of CVs, passports, and language certificates, must be accompanied by an English or Japanese translation. Translations may be completed by the applicant, as the Embassy does not provide translation services.

Selection Process
The scholarship selection process will take place over several stages:
Mid-June 2026
- Application review and pre-selection.
- Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
Late June 2026
- Written examinations in English and Japanese.
Early July 2026
- Interviews conducted at the Embassy of Japan in Haiti.
July – August 2026
- Recommended candidates must secure a letter of acceptance from a Japanese university.
March 2027
- Final scholarship recipients announced by MEXT.
April or September 2027
- Departure to Japan and commencement of studies.
