Massachusetts Declares “Frantzdy Pierrot Day” as Haitian Star Prepares for Historic World Cup Return

Frantzdy Pierrot’s remarkable journey from the soccer fields of Massachusetts to leading Haiti’s national team has come full circle.

On Tuesday, May 26, 2026, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts officially celebrated Frantzdy Pierrot Day, as Governor Maura Healey issued a proclamation honoring the Haitian national team striker and former Melrose High School standout.

Pierrot, who moved from Cap-Haïtien, Haiti, to Massachusetts at the age of 11, stood alongside Governor Healey, Lt. Governor Kim Driscoll, and Boston City Councilor Ruthzee Louijeune at the Massachusetts State House for the special ceremony.

“Before becoming one of Haiti National Soccer’s top goal scorers, Frantzdy Pierrot was a kid growing up in Massachusetts,” said Governor Healey. “Now, he’s back to take the field at Gillette Stadium as part of Haiti’s first World Cup appearance in 52 years. His story is a reminder to every young person across our state: dream big, work hard, and believe in what’s possible.”

The 31-year-old forward has scored 33 goals in 49 appearances for Haiti and played a pivotal role in qualifying the team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. He currently plays professionally for Çaykur Rizespor in Turkey.

This emotional homecoming carries extra significance as Haiti will open its historic World Cup campaign on June 13, 2026, against Scotland at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough — just outside Boston.

Pierrot’s story continues to inspire Massachusetts’ large Haitian-American community and young athletes throughout the state, serving as a powerful example of opportunity, perseverance, and cultural pride.
